Statistics

In this section are two sets of resources. The first is a list of training courses designed to promote a good understanding of the principles and use of statistics in medical research. The second is a list of possible ways to gain practical experience in statistics. 

Understanding statistical techniques and methods is invaluable when considering how best to manage and report research data and when reading, writing or reviewing scientific articles, publications or reports.

Statistics Training Resources

The National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) supported course

The NIHR have funded a number of courses including this Southampton University online course, which teaches core concepts of statistics and provides associated quizzes and recommended resources.

The National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration West courses

NIHR support a number of resources and courses including this which includes interpreting statistics in academic papers/scientific reports and carrying out simple statistical analysis.

The Centre for Applied Statistics at University College London (UCL) courses

The Centre for Applied Statistics at University College London (UCL) offers a breadth of research methods and statistical analyses courses, open to everyone, with many courses being hybrid and self-paced.

The Better Evaluation of Evidence and Statistics (BEES) Course

This course is provided by the Centre for Evidence Based Dermatology at the University of Nottingham and is accredited by the BCD to improve critical appraisal skills for reading dermatological literature.

European Academy of Dermatology & Venereology (EADV) courses

The EADV offer a range of dermatology courses, including research workshops, clinical research and data management.

Resources For Practical Experience In Statistics

The BAD Biologic and Immunomodulators Register (BADBIR) data

Data from BADBIR, one of the largest psoriasis registers globally, is available to apply to use for statistical analysis to answer specific research questions.

The UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN)

UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network (UK DCTN) offer research training and several Fellowships for trainees, Doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists.
