Meetings

Annual symposium at BAD Annual Meeting in the summer, joint meeting with BSID in the Spring and one workshop per year.

Function

The British Photodermatology Group was founded in 1988 to act as a forum of communication for all those with an interest in photodermatology. As well as clinical dermatologists the BPG membership includes physicists, photochemists, photobiologists and members of the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries.

The BPG encourages dialogue and collaboration between these groups by organising annual educational symposia and specialist weekend workshops. Subjects covered in the symposia have included the porphyrias, photochemotherapy, UVB phototherapy and sunscreens. Free communications are also welcomed at the Annual Meeting, with a £250 prize for the best oral presentation. Workshops are attended by invited delegates who have experience in the particular subject under discussion; eg sunbeds, diagnostic phototesting, PUVA techniques and topical photodynamic therapy. To disseminate the information gathered at these workshops, reports are published in the British Journal of Dermatology and other appropriate journals.

To assist members in attending national and international meetings relevant to photodermatology the BPG offers two travel bursaries of £200 each. These may be applied for by submission of a short CV and reasons for attending a particular meeting. Membership is open to all and details may be obtained from the Secretary.
